Working/Demo Day – 15 working spots; auditors

SEMINAR DESCRIPTION:
This seminar is open to all K9 Nose Work® enthusiasts that have a basic understanding of K9 Nose Work® training techniques.
Saturday, April 11, 2020– Lecture/Video/Discussion Format
Every level of trial relies on the same foundational skills. Balancing the foundation with layered challenges should be an integral part of your training program. This workshop will focus on a range of adaptable exercises that allow dog and handler to stretch, and then cement concepts which are applicable at any level of competition. Discussion around the training exercise and your program will illustrate how to adjust and adapt for your individual team.  How can you advance your dog/handler team through the NW levels and achieve your personal best?  What kind of exercises can you be working on to build more skill and overcome any challenges?

Sunday, April 12, 2020 – Clinic with Working/Demo Teams
The goal of this hands-on workshop is to provide an opportunity to practice and observe some of the adaptable exercises discussed in day one.  In order to illustrate more exercise examples, the teams will be divided into groups, which may change throughout the day to facilitate the demonstrations. The workshop is also open to auditors without dogs.

Through group exercises and hands-on activities this workshop will allow handlers to get personalized coaching with regard to their dog, style and experience. Participating teams can be intermediate through Elite. A title is not required, but dogs should have strong odor obedience. Dogs who have less experience or understanding of odor, or are environmentally sensitive or aggressive with people would not be well suited for this type of clinic format.

Participants who would like a working spot must be willing to audit if they do not get selected. We cannot take registrations from people who only want to work a dog in order to attend. In order to have a working/demo spot on Sunday, the handler must attend Saturday. At the time of registration, all participants will pay the workshop fee of $300.00 (by Feb 15 and $325 after Feb 15) as listed below. If a team is selected, the participant will then pay an additional $75.00 for the working/demo spot. Teams selected for a working spot will be notified by email including a link to submit additional payment within 7 days of notification. Working teams will be selected based on their skill level and an effort to show a variety of dogs and styles for the learning benefit of all working and auditing participants.

About the Working/Demo Dog Teams:

  • Dogs will need to be comfortable crated in your car or staying lose in the car. Please bring bedding, cool covers, pop-ups, fans or whatever your dog needs to be made comfortable and cool enough in between working exercises.
  • Dogs must be able to stay quietly in their vehicles out of sight from their handlers.
  • Dogs with mild environmental sensitivities are welcome; however, working dogs should be comfortable being watched by a group of people and not have any extreme environmental concerns.
  • Only one dog/handler team per handler will be selected but you may submit more than one of your dogs for consideration.
  • We will let you know if your dog is selected to work as we are looking for a variety of breeds/sizes. The additional fee for a working spot is $75 in addition to the regular workshop fee.  This fee will be payable online at a link given to you in the notification email.  This fee must be paid within 7 days of notification of your selection for a working spot.
